I was introduced to RC cars at a young age, and discovered hobby-grade cars in my early teens. Approaching 30 years old I've been in and out of the hobby for 17 years, it scratches the itch when my real car is broken or stored for the winter. Much like my full-scale car, my favorite part of the little cars is styling and restyling them to look a certain way. I find that styling rc cars contributes to fresh perspectives when styling or designing parts for my real car.
My first proper rc car was a 1/36 scale Team Losi Micro-T, my grandma gave me a $100 christmas bonus which was enough for the kit and a CD copy of Rise Against's Appeal to Reason. I loved that little car so much, it was all I thought about for years. They were a fairly delicate due to their size so all of my kid money was spent on repairing and upgrading that car. There are lessons I learned from that toy at 13 years old that still prove relevant today. It is an expensive hobby, so it took kid-me a couple years of saving before purchasing my second and third cars. By that time I was 17 years old, so I sold off the toys for some extra scratch to put towards an actual car. Ten years later I get curious about the toys again, so I visited a hobby shop and walked out with a rereleased Kyosho Optima. Since then I've been enjoying cozy days inside building, tinkering, and designing parts for my little collection of little cars.
